UPDATED: 11.20am

Pyes Pa Rd has been reopened after a gas leak this morning.

Contractors hit the gas main when they were working about 50m from Barkes Corner, at the intersection of Pyes Pa Rd and Havenbrook Way.

The road was closed for about 20 minutes but has since reopened.

Emergency services have left the scene.

Emergency services are on their way to a reported gas leak on Pyes Pa Road near Barkes Corner.

Firefighters from Greerton and Tauranga have responded to a call about a gas main rupture at about 10.50am.

The incident is believed to be about 50m from the intersection of Pyes Pa Rd and SH29.

The road is closed and traffic is being diverted down Cheyne Rd.

The road is expected to re-open around 11.15am.
