A steady stream of secondary students from around the Bay of Plenty took the opportunity to find out about the tertiary study and career options available when they finish school.
At the annual Tauranga Careers Expo, University of Waikato staff guided students, parents, and those considering tertiary study as mature students,
through the diploma and degree courses available at the University's Hamilton and Tauranga campuses.
The university offers a growing range of courses in Tauranga, including business and computing degree programmes taught in partnership with Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
Student recruitment adviser Tammy-Lee Millard said more students are becoming interested in the study options available closer to home.
"The cost of leaving home to study can be a huge financial commitment these days and more and more students are taking advantage of the wide range of options we have here in the Bay."
Ms Millard said many degrees can be completed entirely in Tauranga, including teacher education, social science, social work, business, finance and computer science. The diploma in law, post-graduate diploma in secondary teaching and some post-graduate diplomas can also be studied in Tauranga.
