A Sydney solicitor was gunned down in his home office just metres from his wife and two young sons yesterday.
Thomas Williams, 42, was shot several times as he worked in his office, which is separated from his inner-west Petersham home by a narrow driveway.
Police made no comment on a possiblemotive for the murder, but said detectives would probe Williams' business dealings, personal relationships and other contacts, and his movements.
A colleague described the solicitor, who specialised in commercial, employment and industrial law, as a tough litigator respected by his adversaries.
Williams, whose website said he had practised law for 25 years, was a former in-house lawyer with oil giant Caltex.
In private practice, he had earned a reputation as a David and Goliath-style advocate, having taken on cases in which he challenged big business on behalf of his smaller clients.
