Protests in support of a G8 summit demonstrator shot dead by Italian police in Genoa overnight have been organised in cities worldwide.
A 10.37 am (NZT) posting on the Independent Media Centre (IMC) website said "emergency solidarity demonstrations are being organised against the G8 and the police violence" in Stockholm, SanFrancisco/Berkeley, New York, Vancouver and Germany.
The San Francisco based IMC said a protest had been organised to start at 1 pm today (6 pm Friday, local time).
The site asked those who were concerned for "friends and loved ones protesting in Genoa" to rally in downtown Berkeley. Demonstrators were asked to wear black to mourn the death of 23-year-old Genoa resident Carlo Giuliani.
Supporters in New York were told to gather at the Italian embassy on Park Avenue at 9 am today (4 pm Friday local time).
The Italian consulate in Vancouver will also be the site of a solidarity protest tomorrow.
The Vancouver IMC asks protesters to "bring banners, megaphones, and lots and lots of anger" to the demonstration.
