Two Australian mates have been captured on CCTV dramatically defending their home from would-be robbers.

Video of the confrontation shared to Facebook shows the two men, one wearing nothing but his underpants, chasing and confronting the alleged thieves as they run from the home and try to steal a car, reports news.com.au.

One of the men, 21, was wearing only underwear as he smashed open the windows of the car with a sledgehammer to try to foil the robbery as his mate, 24, dressed in hi-vis, dragged another teen from the vehicle.

The teens had tried to steal the car at the home in Keilor, in Melbourne's north, on Sunday about 7am, according to The Herald Sun.

The video shows the teens running from inside the home as they're chased by the man in hi-vis onto the veranda. The man hits at the legs of one of the teens and the two fall but quickly get back up and continue outside.

The two teenagers then jump into a silver Commodore sitting in the driveway of the home.

The tradie, armed with a sledgehammer, pulls one of the teens out from the car and drags him across the street before the man in his undies takes to the car, smashing the window to get the second teen out of the car.

According to Victoria Police, three teens had broken into the home at Malibu Grove in Keilor Lodge and attempted to steal a car.

The same group is alleged to have broken into a home at Flemington that same morning, where they stole handbags, a mobile phone and a white Toyota sedan.

The three teens, aged between 16 and 17, have been charged with more than 60 offences between them relating to a string of alleged crimes across Melbourne.

All three teens have been remanded in custody and will appear at a children's court at a later date.
