A New Zealander has been accused of robbing a man and throwing him off a bridge on Australia's Gold Coast.
New Zealander Jae Kahn Crawford, 21, and Beau Michael Blunden, 22, were yesterday charged with robbery with violence over the alleged attack, about 5am on Tuesday.
Police alleged during a bail application by Crawford in Southport Magistrates Court that the pair were walking with two other men when they set upon the 23-year-old victim, The Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
Blunden allegedly demanded the man hand over his wallet. When he refused, Blunden punched him twice, knocking him to the ground, then robbed him.
Blunden and Crawford then threw the man off the Chevron Island bridge where he fell 5m into the Nerang River.
He was rescued by a fisherman.
The pair will face a committal hearing on March 5 next year.
The newspaper earlier reported that "four men of Maori appearance" were apprehended after the incident, but today said the other two men said to have been present during the attack did not face court.
