Dubai's skyline shines at photo awards

This photo of the Dubai skyline at night has been rated one of the best photographs taken in 2017.

The eye-catching image — which shows some of the city's vibrant lights blaring through a night-time haze — was taken by Sebastian Tontsh and was shortlisted in the built environment/architecture category of the 2017 Epson International Photo Awards.

The competition — open to amateur and professional photographers — received 5377 entries from 1322 photographers; a record number of contenders.

The overall winner of the awards was Jesus M. Garcia, from Spain, for his entry titled Good Morning Damian Shan.

The photo overlooks a river valley in China. Garcia started climbing the hillside overlooking the valley at 3am the day it was shot.

The winner took out a cash prize of $32,100 plus Epson products.

The Epson International Photo Awards is the world's biggest competition for panoramic photography.
