KABUL/WASHINGTON – The impact of the 7.5-tonne daisy cutter bomb dropped on Tora Bora yesterday set off panicked radio and satellite-phone calls from al Qaeda troops hiding in the cave complex, ABC news said today.
The report said the calls told intelligence sources that bin Laden was near the blast andwas now on the run and that many al Qaeda leaders had been killed.
US forces are said to now be using aerial surveillance to track the fleeing al Qaeda members.
Meanwhile, a commander in the anti-Taleban mujahedin, Mohammad Amin, and a spokesman for the US-led coalition both played down media reports that the fighters had offered to surrender later today (NZT) – a deadline set by their pursuers.
