Whanganui's young talent was showcased with Let the Good Times Roll opening at Amdram Theatre last night.
Other performances start at 8pm tonight (Saturday) and then for the next two weekends with a show on August 18 at 8pm and a final matinee on Sunday, August 20 at 2pm.
It's a cabaret style show with dance numbers, singing and musical performances, and presented by the Sharyn Underwood School of Dance.
Director Sharyn Underwood said the show featured three dance segments interspersed with musical interludes where the audience could mingle and chat.
"The bar will be open and the audience will be able to get drinks and finger foods during the breaks, and even have a dance if they want to," Ms Underwood nsaid ahead of the show.
"We have musicians like Richard Littlejohn providing musical interludes.
"There is a great mix of music during the performances with old-time songs like Frank Sinatra's Fly Me to the Moon and then there are modern songs so the show is suitable for all ages."
Ms Underwood said the dancers performing in the show were all in top form having recently passed exams.
"It's also a chance to showcase the singing and musical talent of Whanganui's high school students."
The school is fundraising to send 12 senior students to Sydney in October.
"The trip is to extend their dance education and they will be taking classes at Sydney Dance Company and Ettingshausens performing arts centre as well as visiting other well-known studios around Sydney.
