With all the alcohol he'd drunk that day, driver Matthew Dylan Brewer was surprised the police breath test was so low.
The 26-year-old blew 534mcg in an evidential breath test at a routine checkpoint stop on September 12. The legal limit is 250mcg.
Brewer expressed his surprise to police atthe time, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler told the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
"In explanation the defendant said 'I will be well over, I've drunk seven jugs between two of us, 15 DB stubbies, and five bottles of Black Heart rum today. I'm surprised I only blew that much.'"
Brewer pleaded guilty to driving with excess breath alcohol.
