Wanganui hairdresser Jacqui Broughton has reason to feel proud - not only did she place fourth in senior stylist category of the recent regional competitions but nine of her UCOL students also won places in the novice category.
Ms Broughton is president of the Whanganui Association of Registered Hairdressers andowns Jax Hair Studio in Wanganui, alongside her lecturing role at UCOL.
She says she encouraged students to enter the industry event this year to gain experience and exposure.
"Being involved in the event required intense practice, research and training, which increases students' confidence and skill level."
Of the 18 UCOL Whanganui students in the competition, nine first and second-year students gained placements.
In the Novice Styling 1st Year category the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places went to Whanganui UCOL certificate in hairdressing salon support students Sam Watkin, Alicia Bakker, Alexandra Tonkin and Brooke Caird respectively. The Novice Styling 2nd Year category 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were picked up by Whanganui UCOL certificate in hairdressing practice year 2 students Cherri Holly, Ell Lawson, Alice Monahgan and Kath Smith.
