Long-standing Wanganui Stroke Club member Murray Stevens has received an appreciation award for his services.
The award was presented at Stroke Central Region's annual general meeting and convention on October 8. Nominations for the awards were made by club members across the region.
Mr Stevens' nomination described him as "anall round first class club man".
"Murray has been a stalwart member of the club for years and has served on the committee for several years. Murray has had medical issues along with the after effects of his stroke, but Murray is always cheerful with a joke for any occasion. Murray excelled himself this year for Stroke Awareness Week. He helped to raise funds and volunteered wherever needed. He also helps the boccia team at the AGM.
"Murray is involved with Men's Shed, Neighbourhood Watch and St John Ambulance. He got several medals at the Masters Games. He has visited other stroke club members in their homes or rest homes."
"It is amazing how people affected by something as life changing as a stroke can have the determination to help others in a similar situation," Stroke Central chief executive Lee Pownall said.
