The Wanganui Harrier Club's 2019 season formally gets underway this weekend with club open day on Saturday, followed by the annual Brine to Wine Road Race the following morning.
On Saturday, interested people can attend the clubrooms at Victoria Park to register for the season, with all walkers, runners and supporters welcome.
The 2019 season syllabus and membership forms will be available.
Being held between 1.30-3.30pm, there will be social events followed by afternoon tea, with members requested to bring a plate.
Sunday morning is the Brine to Wine, a 16km walk or run from Castlecliff Beach across town to the Top 10 Holiday Park in Aramoho on Somme Parade.
After entering on the day, walkers will start at 8am, with the runners taking off an hour later.
Entry is on the day, and has solo, two person or four person team options.
For those in teams, the relay change points along the way are at Garmac Engineering on Heads Rd, the River Walkway behind the BP service station on Taupo Quay, and the final leg along Somme Parade from opposite Caroline's Boat Shed.
Last year, national champion rower Luke Watts won the Gilbertson Shield after winning the race in 1h 0m 03s, ahead of club members Chris Line and Josh Payne.
