Whanganui again has had their star rowers put forward for recognition at the 54th Halberg Awards, with Olympic silver medallist Rebecca Scown getting two nominations.
The Halberg Disability Sport Foundation announced 87 nominations have been received for six categories at awards - the nation's pre-eminent event to honour and celebrate sporting achievements by New Zealand teams and athletes in 2016.
Scown and her women's pair partner Genevieve Behrent have been nominated in the Team of Year category both for their silver medal row at Rio, as well as another nomination as part of the Rowing Women's Eight, which also includes Whanganui's Kerri Gowler.
It is a reversal on last year when Gowler received two nominations as part of the pair and the eight, with the eight including Scown.
Thirty one different sports are represented among the nominees, which have been submitted from their national organisations and an independent nominations panel.
The nominations will now be judged by the Halberg Awards Voting Academy and shortlisted into finalists.
The shortlist will be announced in early January 2017, with the awards ceremony taking place on February 9 at Vector Arena in Auckland, televised live on Sky Sport.
