ROWING: Tickets for a luncheon with Olympic gold medal-winning rowing twins Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell in Wanganui today have sold out.
Fans, however, can still catch up with the affable sisters during an hour session at Springvale Park from 11am.
The visit was organised in a joint venture between the Aramoho-Wanganui Rowing Club, the Union Boat Club and the Wanganui Collegiate Rowing Supporter's Club.
The clubs put traditional race rivalry aside to bring the twins to the River City, but dug deep to beat each other in the race to sell tickets to the luncheon at the Function Centre.
Barbara Hammond, one of the event organisers, would not reveal who won that race, but did say all three clubs were winners when funds raised were split three ways.
"The $40 luncheon tickets have been sold out, but people can still catch up with the Evers-Swindells during activities at the Stadium at Springvale Park," she said.
"We have over 1000 students turning up to the activities at the Stadium.
"That begins at 10.30am, but the twins won't arrive until 11am. They'll be there for an hour before taking off to the two-hour luncheon."
A gold coin is the entry fee to activities at the stadium, which includes erg-rowing competitions for senior students and colouring competitions and banner designs for younger pupils.
