Australian violinist Emily Sun is rapidly gaining international recognition as an emerging soloist.
She was awarded the gold medal of the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Music Competition UK, the first violinist to win the award since 1981.
She is currently touring New Zealand together with pianist Gamal Khamis who, with a fist full of formidable awards and collaborations to his name, is one of the UK's rising stars.
At the end of their concert tour, Sun and Khamis will adjudicate the 2018 Pettman ROSL Arts Chamber Music Scholarship.
The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSLNZ) is a self-funded and non-profit Commonwealth organisation committed to supporting New Zealand musicians and artists at the onset of their careers through a programme of scholarships and performance opportunities.
This concert tour is organised by Chamber Music New Zealand together with the ROSL, and their performance in Whanganui is an additional concert to the Chamber Music Wanganui 50th Anniversary Subscription Series.
The duo will share a sumptuous programme of romantic and virtuosic music, including works by Faure, Grieg and Schubert.
A feature of the evening will be the short work Tōrua, written by Arts Foundation New Zealand Icon, Dame Gillian Whitehead - a work commissioned by international violinist, Hilary Hahn.
And to finish on a lighter note, they will play Frolov's Concert Fantasy on themes from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.
The concert will take place on Thursday, October 18 at 7.30pm, Prince Edward Auditorium, Wanganui Collegiate School, Grey St entrance. Tickets are available in advance from the Royal Wanganui Opera House, or at the door (no eftpos). Adults $35, seniors $32, subscribers $20, students $5
