A woman was so badly beaten by her partner this year that she suffered a seizure.
On April 23 the woman asked her former partner Carlos Bushell to move out of her Whanganui address and an argument ensued.
In the Whanganui District Court on Monday, Judge Philip Crayton said the complainant then walked down the road with Bushell discussing their relationship.
"You picked her up and carried her towards the wooden deck and struck her head on the deck at least four times," Judge Crayton said.
"She said she would go home to bed, at that point she went home and she suffered a seizure."
Bushell admitted and was convicted of two charges of male assaults female.
He has previously appeared before the court for violent offending. He was convicted of wilful damage in 2012 and has also previously breached a protection order.
Judge Crayton told the court the circumstances surrounding the second assault which occurred over May 17 and 18.
"You were arguing with the complainant until 9pm on the 18th of May, you grabbed her while she was in a chair, restrained her and she punched you to get away," the judge said.
"You then pushed her face causing her to fall off the chair. She fell and there was a physical struggle and her wrist was injured.
"There have been no lasting effects physically, but of course the emotional effects are those which are sadly unsurprising."
Bushell spent four months in custody after his offending and then spent a significant period on electronically monitored bail.
Judge Crayton sentenced Bushell to six months community detention and 18 months supervision.
