An influx of older residents to Whanganui is being credited with the rise in membership of U3A, the University of the Third Age.
Following the organisation's annual meeting in April, it was reported membership had risen from 245 last year to 283.
The Whanganui group's first event was held last week when members had the opportunity to meet seven of the new committee, ask questions and make suggestions.
About 40 people attended the meeting which included a talk by author Susanna Norris on her book Annie's War.
U3A Whanganui has 31 groups, ranging from Scrabble and cafe culture to science and technology and philosophy. Groups meet at varioustimes and locations, while a cinema outing is held monthly at Embassy 3.
