On a Sunday morning in the near future women dressed in pink will drink champagne and be chauffeured around Whanganui in classic cars.
Laura Cleveland and Michelle Cleveland Scarrow are holding their Clevelands Pink Ribbon champagne breakfast on May 20. It starts at 9.30am in the Cleveland Funeral Home reception area and will be open to people who have made donations of at least $20.
They will be treated to food and champagne, before they get to purr around town in a classic car.
The occasion is open to men and women. The organisers would appreciate them wearing pink clothing - but it's not essential.
The Cleveland Funeral Home will pay for the food and champagne. All the money donated will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation, and be used to fund research and support women with breast cancer.
An average of eight New Zealand women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. The Clevelands know of many and wanted to give back.
Early donations for the event would be appreciated, Cleveland Scarrow said, so numbers are known for catering.
• Donations can be made and tickets collected at the funeral home at 179 Ingestre St or people can donate online at pinkribbonbreakfast.co.nz, by searching for Clevelands. Their donation will be recorded and act as a ticket to the breakfast.
