Whanganui has a new practising lawyer.
Claire Middleton was admitted to the bar on Thursday afternoon having moved to Whanganui in May to work for Wilkinson Smith Lawyers.
Originally from Porirua, Miss Middleton completed her studies last year and took some time to travel before she began looking for work.
"I hadn't been here until I came for the interview. But I like Whanganui," she said.
"I think it's good being in a smaller town and in smaller firm because I'm doing lots of different stuff."
She studied in Dunedin and enjoyed the first year legal paper.
"I really liked that so I continued. I think it's just a general human interest in crime and all of that.
As for her long term goals she ill wait and see.
"I don't really know at the moment but I do want to stick with the criminal stuff for a little while.
Now having been admitted to the bar she will be able to act in the courtroom.
"I'm nervous obviously but I think it'll be cool."
