People from each of Marton's churches came together yesterday morning to mark Good Friday.
The march of the cross began at St Martin's Lutheran Church before the group of about 30 walked to St Stephens and then on to St Andrews and the Civic Square before finishing at the Bible Chapel for hot cross buns.
More followed in cars.
"The numbers will be very different the closer we get to the hot cross buns," St Andrew's Reverend Phil Warner said.
"By the time we get there the numbers will be very big."
Mr Warner said it was an annual event and one of many throughout the year where the different churches got together.
"Basically it's remembering Good Friday as the day Jesus took his cross and walked up the hill so we carry the cross to remind us of that," he said.
"We go to different churches each year because we can't get to every church in Marton. We work really well together.
"A significant portion of our town are Christian and it's just about saying that we're a group of people and it doesn't matter what church you go to, we're all part of the one family."
