He rode in on a horse, broke a window ... then ran.
Alan Bowley pleaded guilty in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday to one charge of wilful damage.
Police prosecutor Rachel Williamsen told the court on June 11 at 5.15am Bowley rode a horse to what he throught was his adult son's house in Taupo.
But unknown to Bowley his son had been evicted from the same property weeks earlier.
He tied his horse to a post outside and tried to enter through the back door. When he couldn't do this he broke a window to get in.
Once the window smashed he made a run for it, fearing the police would arrive. He fled on foot leaving behind his horse. All the while observed from the upstairs window by the homes new occupant.
In court Bowley refused the services of a public defendant stating he just wanted to get this over with.
Judge Philip Crayton said he suspected there had been alcohol at play and Bowleys actions had resulted in major inconvenience for the victim.
"There was no need they should be out of pocket for the repairs to the glass."
Bowley was fined $250 and ordered to pay $159.39 in reparations for damage.
As he was about to leave the court Bowley told Judge Crayton he didn't mean to break the glass, he was just trying to slide it and it popped out of the frame.
