The Waimarino Wild Food Challenge takes the stage again in Raetihi on January 21.
Judging will be at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club.
The challenge was founded in 2008 as a culinary adventure competition.
Organiser Bill Manson said the challenges were designed to "showcase the resourcefulness of local people living in communities where wild food is available".
"From one small contest in Eastbourne near Wellington, there are now eight challenges in five countries across the world," he said.
To help the judges, entrants need to tell the story of their efforts to gather and prepare their dish, Mr Manson said.
Entries can range from picking edible wild flowers or hunting wild boar to fermenting wild apples or curing wild fish.
