A man who sent half naked photos of his ex-girlfriend to her shared work email address has been sentenced under the Harmful Digital Communications Act.
Michael Lang appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Monday, having pleaded guilty to the offence, along with unrelated charges of causing loss by deception and breaching release conditions.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said the victim was Lang's 24-year-old ex-partner.
On November 3 he sent an email to her work account, which is shared with her colleagues and regularly used and checked by others at the property firm she works at.
A receptionist opened the email, which had 11 photos attached of the victim "in various states of undress".
Three photos showed the victim's exposed breasts, and four showed her in her underwear, Mr Butler said.
The victim is not looking at the camera in the photos. The photos are stored on Lang's laptop and cellphone.
He said he "wanted to return them to her and wanted closure for himself", Mr Butler said.
Judge Thomas Ingram sentenced Lang to 12 months imprisonment in total.
