Golden blooms were popping up everywhere in Wanganui yesterday as people pinned them on their lapels or bought fresh bunches to support Daffodil Day, the Cancer Society's national fundraiser.
Gonville School combined the occasion with a fun sports day, and Whanganui Police, Sport Wanganui and Cancer Society volunteers were at the school to help out.
Children adorned themselves and their bicycles with bright yellow flowers and decorations and pre-schoolers from Gonville kindergarten, Noah's Ark and Pooh Corner came with their teachers to join in.
There was line dancing, soccer, rippa rugby as well as skipping and cycling on offer and Ron's Garage was on hand for bicycle repairs.
Meanwhile, Victoria Avenue was awash with daffodils as sellers lined the street and a sausage sizzle got under way at majestic Square.
The Wanganui branch of the Cancer Society had about 2500 bunches of flowers to sell, and hoped to raise $60,000.
