Protests are expected outside the Wanganui premiere of the movie Fifty Shades Of Grey.
The movie, which portrays the tangled relationship between an innocent university student and a wealthy businessman with a dark past, will open with a masquerade party and movie screening at Embassy3 tomorrow night.
Gary Vinnell, manager of Embassy3, said he had received a phone call warning him there would be protests if the movie screened at the theatre.
He didn't know who the phone call was from.
"I'm not worried about it - it will just add to the atmosphere," he said.
Lobby group Family First NZ has called for the film to be boycotted because of its "glamorisation of violence."
Mr Vinnell described Fifty Shades Of Grey as "the most anticipated movie of 2015".
Throughout the country 18,000 tickets to the movie have already been sold, and the Wanganui premiere has only a handful of tickets left. About 200 had been sold.
"We expect it to be sold out, and we're expecting the movie to have a very good season."
He said Embassy3 had been taking inquiries about the movie since October. It was unusual for a movie to garner such interest so far out from its screening.
"The interesting thing is the wide variety of people who are buying tickets. It's definitely not just one demographic," Mr Vinnell said.
-The premiere screening takes place at 8pm tomorrow. Tickets are available for $25 per person, from the Embassy3 box office. Price includes drinks, nibbles, giveaways, and entry.
