Wanganui's branch of the State insurance company is to close its doors on November 28.
It's one of 21 State offices nationwide that will be closed down, with only the Riccarton branch in Christchurch staying open to help people with earthquake-related inquiries.
The branches are closing because 94 per cent of its business is now conducted online or on the phone, executive general manager Craig Olsen said.
There will be 91 jobs lost, but the company hopes to find positions for about 70 of those people.
Four people who work in the Wanganui office are affected. There are no jobs for them in Wanganui but they may be able to work for the company elsewhere. If not, redundancy will be an option, retail network head Wayne Tippet said.
State is owned by IAG, an Australian company that also owns AMI, Lumley and NZI and handles just over half of New Zealand insurance.
Customers who miss the face-to-face contact could transfer their business to AMI, Mr Olsen said. In Wanganui, that will be easy, as it is just across Victoria Ave from the State office.
