A red-face moment for the driver of this Bullocks excavator which was well and truly up to its hocks in Whanganui River silt yesterday.
Glen Bullock, contracts manager for the company, said the excavator was clearing the Rogers St stormwater outfall in Castlecliff for Wanganui District Council when it got bogged down.
Mr Bullock said it was work his company usually did twice a year. "The driver simply hit a soft spot on the riverbank." The excavator managed to claw its way back on to firmer ground before the tide turned. It will be back on the job at low tide today.
