Live roller derby action returns to Wanganui this evening as the local girls, the River City Rollers, defend their turf against the Taranaki Roller Corps at Jubilee Stadium for "Carnevil".
Around two thirds of tonight's River City team were in the line-up that beat the Taranaki Rumble Bees 242-204 at Hawera's TSB Hub in August 2013 - Rumble Bees being a combination of the Roller Corp and the other New Plymouth-based club that existed at that time.
"It was quite a convincing win - it wasn't down to the wire, like recently we lost by six to the Fatales from Levin," said captain Mel-icious Mayhem, aka Melanie McGhie.
Most of that 2013 Taranaki line-up will be in the Roller Corp and eager for some payback, although McGhie said being at Jubilee will be a big advantage.
"That's always a good feeling, having it at home. It tends to get the blood pumping and focused to put on a good show."
As well as the main event, there will be an exhibition game beforehand, consisting of two 10-minute halves, between the newly skill-tested members of the River City club against an invitational team of new players from Palmerston North and Kapiti.
The exhibition starts at 5.30pm, followed by River City vs Taranaki at 6.30pm.
