There are plenty of familiar faces in artist Mike Marsh's latest exhibition, especially if you're a music lover.
27/Forever is showing at Space Gallery until July 4.
In this exhibition Mr Marsh has taken selected rock stars who are part of the "27 Club" - died at the age of 27 - and contrasted them with bandmates who are still alive and making music.
The faces include Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl from Nirvana, Brian Jones and Mick Jagger from The Rolling Stones, and Dave Alexander and Iggy Pop from Iggy Pop and The Stooges.
Mr Marsh has painted portraits of the dead rock stars on plywood, representing a coffin, using black acrylic wood stain overlaid with enamel.
By contrast, the living rockers are painted as they are now and in full colour acrylic.
Mr Marsh said he was an "appreciator" of music.
"People always seem to make art about politics, but I just do what interests me."
Mr Marsh said he has always been inspired by pop art and street.
He came to Wanganui from the Manawatu in 2006 to go to art school and never left.
He's not a fulltime artist but just "fits it in where I can".
This is Mr Marsh's second exhibition at Space Gallery.
