The Wanganui Oaks and Wanganui Derby finals will be contested at the Hatrick Raceway this evening.
Both classic-aged 520m events carry a healthy stake of $9500.
First up is the Oaks (Race 8, 8.15pm), which contains an interesting blend of experience and potential.
Fitting the experience bracket is the Lisa Ahern-prepared Mammy Brown who is likely to use her known early pace to attempt to lead this field throughout after leaping from the six trap.
The northern Ben Craik trained visitor Katcha Fire is likely to adopt similar tactics here and she can feature by doing so. She owns a smart best of 29.78 seconds for a 520m winning time on this track.
Keep the talented Thrilling Giggle safe as she owns plenty of potential, although she is giving away experience for her trainer Karen Walsh.
She is going to feature in some of the bigger races later this season.
Consider Hello Ello as the type who can inject value into the race combos here. She has drawn perfectly for her racing style in the two trap for her trainer Brent Johnston.
Local trainer Andy Duganzich has his team really firing at the moment and he will be looking to Summer Tension to provide him with the spoils in this event.
She has placed in both of her prior races from the ace trap and that is where she is starting from here.
The Wanganui Derby (Race 9, 8.43pm) promises to be clash between the open class chasers Superior Izmir and Thrilling Butcha. The former has chased home some handy types in his latest outings for his Foxton trainers Paul Freeman and Angela Turnwald.
The Walsh-prepared Thrilling Butcha is likely to be sighted putting in some big late bounds. This fella can be a touch tardy from the traps, but he does process immense pace.
And speaking about strong finishing types, expect his powerful kennelmate Thrilling Zoom to rattle home late.
The fresh-up Ostapchuk has drawn nicely in the one trap for Ahern and he is likely to be sighted pushing up along the rail during the early rush.
His kennelmates Bigtime Jet, Laugh Like Santa and Graduation are all capable of being able to snare a minor portion of the stake here.
Lock in Saturday, December 14, for a Saturday evening at the greyhounds. The Wanganui club will host a one-off Saturday meeting, to replace the cancelled October 16 meeting, starting at 6pm at the Hatrick Raceway.
The meeting features the popular Christmas at the Races theme, so ring the club on 345 6794 to book a table.
