Wanganui High School principal Garry Olver visited his new school on Friday to meet the staff and to get a feel for the place.
He loved it.
"I am a happy man. I'm very happy to be moving to Wanganui. It's a lovely town and I am thrilled with my new school very thrilled indeed."
Mr Olver takes over on October 15 at the start of fourth term and is currently deputy principal at Rosehill College in Papakura.
"I have actually been driving my friends mad telling them I am not sorry to be leaving Auckland for a much prettier, smaller more peaceful place."
Mr Olver said meeting the high school staff on Friday's teacher-only day had been a wonderful experience.
The high school students were no doubt proud of their exceptional academic results and achievements outside the classroom, he said.
"And I am committed to further extending the achievements of these fine young people through collaborating with the incredibly talented and devoted teachers and support staff."
On Saturday Mr Olver watched the High School First 15 rugby team play against Palmerston North Boys High in Palmerston North.
"I enjoy watching and supporting the students, it is very important to me," he said.
