The unpredictable nature of late spring weather patterns will continue this week with the MetService warning of heavy rain through northern Wanganui tomorrow.
The rainfall, which could reach warning levels in some areas, is coming on a front which is forecast to bring heavy rain to parts of Westland and Buller today.
This front is expected to move on to the North Island tomorrow, heralding its arrival with a burst of rain.
Forecasters said there was low confidence this front would bring "warnable" amounts of rain to Mt Taranaki, the central North Island hill country from eastern Taranaki across to Tongariro National Park, and the Tararua and Ruahine ranges.
A strong west to southwest flow should cover the country from tomorrow to early Saturday with gales likely for southern and central parts of the North Island.
