Wanganui Male Choir [Inc] presents its 271st concert, Choruses from Operas & Shows.
The concert features Wanganui Male Choir and special guest Cecily Shaw.
Mezzo-soprano Cecily is enrolled in a Master of Music at the University of Waikato, under the tutelage of Glenese Blake. Cecily has been an alto soloist with Vox Baroque, the Edgecumbe Choir and Cantando Choir, and has attended Chamber Music New Zealand's Bach Cantata Residency, with Juliard415 and Masaaki Suzuki. In 2016, Cecily played the role of Cherubino in the Waikato University production of Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), and in 2017 and 2018 she attended the New Zealand Opera School, here in Whanganui. This year she was thrilled to receive the Bryan Wyness Award, for the "spirit of the school".
Cecily is a reserve for the Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus, and was recently in the world premiere of Janet Jennings' Flowing Water, as part of the settlers' chorus.
In her spare time, Cecily also composes humorous songs for the ukulele, which can be found on her YouTube channel, Socratena.
For this concert, Cecily will be accompanied on piano by Abigail Livesay, well known to Whanganui audiences having been previously the accompanist to the Wanganui Male Choir.
Choruses from Operas & Shows will be held at the Central Baptist Church, Wicksteed St, Whanganui on Sunday, July 1 at 2.30pm. Door Sales: Adults $20, Students free.
