Tickets for the Ray White Wanganui Sports Awards are now on sale, and a highlight of this year's event is sure to be the guest Master of Ceremonies, Ben Hurley.
Affectionately known as "the bearded guy from 7 Days", Ben Hurley is a familiar face on New Zealand television screens, as head writer and panellist for the popular TV3 show, as well as appearances on numerous other shows, including the Comedy Gala, Funny Roots and Would I Lie To You.
Hurley was born in Taranaki and started his comedy career in Wellington as resident host of The Wellington Comedy Club. After winning the Billy T Award he moved to London and worked extensively on the comedy circuit there. He has performed as part of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival 10 years in a row, consistently selling out shows.
The Sports Awards night is Sport Wanganui's annual event to celebrate the achievements of this region's sports people. The 2014 awards will recognise excellence and dedication to sport across Wanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu from October 1, 2013 to September 30, this year. The event is very popular and tickets have a habit of selling out fast, so early purchase is encouraged.
Awards are given across 11 categories, with the evening also including the announcement of Tupoho Scholarship recipients, the induction of members to the Wanganui District Council Hall of Fame (where outstanding Wanganui achievers from the past are acknowledged) and the Sport Wanganui Roll of Honour (recognising those volunteers who have contributed 25 years of service).
This year's Sports Awards will be held at the Wanganui Racecourse on November 21. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from the Sport Wanganui office at 40 Maria Place Extension.
