Greytown are virtually guaranteed a place in the grand final of the Wairarapa Cricket Association's Bidwell Cup two-day competition but defending champions Flight Centre Lansdowne are in danger of missing out.
With two series of preliminary round games still to be played, Greytown have amassed 30 points, with Red Star second on 18, followed by Wairarapa College on 12 and Lansdowne on 10.
Lansdowne's position was not helped by them defaulting their most recent fixture against Greytown because of a shortage of players, and a win over Red Star in the match which gets under way this Saturday will be vital to their hopes of making up lost ground.
The second day of that game has been scheduled for March 14, but not so that for the encounter between Wairarapa College and Rathkeale College, in which the McBride-Peterson Cup will be at stake. It will be played this Saturday and Sunday at Rathkeale Oval.
The draw for lower grade games is:
Open grade _ Saturday: Lansdowne 2 v Chanel, Queen Elizabeth Park Oval at 12.30pm; Wairarapa College 2 v Red Star 2, Wairarapa College 1 at 1pm. Sunday: Greytown 2 v Greytown 3, Greytown at noon.
Third grade _ Saturday: Cossie v Wairarapa College Colts, Park Sports 1 at 1pm; Rathkeale 2 v Lansdowne 3, Rathkeale artificial at 1pm.
