The Otago University professor's well-publicised conclusion that Kiwi women are achieving higher IQ scores than their male counterparts for the first time in 100 years should earn him a knighthood, at the very least.
James Flynn has done us men a huge favour with his findings.
The burden of being the smarter of the two sexes for such a lengthy period has been a hefty weight to bear.
Just look at any scientific survey on the ageing process. Nine times out of 10 they will show you the life expectancy of males is significantly less than it is for females.
And they will also tell you stress is the main cause of an early departure from Planet Earth.
There has to be a correlation between the two, doesn't there?
Ask any man, having the greater brainpower is no fun.
For starters, you daren't parade the fact your top two inches is superior to that of the woman (replace the a with an e if you need) in your life.
You have to constantly tread that thorny path which has you making a decision while all the time convincing the opposite sex it was really their idea.
Meetings of any kind can become a nightmare.
You go there knowing that while the women involved are generally only there to make the tea they must be given the chance to actually speak, and speak they do, on and on.
Which in turn creates the balancing act of keeping the eyes open and pretending to listen all at the same time. And, what's more, you have to remember to offer them a cup of tea first, just to continue the pretence that their input was valuable in the decision-making process.
It's little different in the workplace.
The stress for men has been in accepting that some companies see value in having a woman in charge. Not because they have more candles burning upstairs, simply because it is good for image. Providing the subservient males below them are actually calling the shots then everybody is a winner, aren't they?
Us males desperately need a break and Professor Flynn has provided the light at the end of the tunnel.
Footnote: My wife ordered me to show her this before it went to print and called me a misogynist. Haven't a clue what it means.
