The New Zealand Labour Party is launching a Wairarapa women's branch this month.
Organiser Marie McAnulty, mother of Labour Party nominee hopeful Kieran McAnulty, said the move was part of Labour's efforts to win the general election next year.
"It's a chance to have a social gathering and fundraising," she said.
The launch at Carterton's Event Centre features guest speaker and member of Parliament Jacinda Ardern, Labour's spokeswoman for social development.
Several mystery auctions plus an afternoon tea will be part of the entertainment.
Mrs McAnulty said she had not heard Ms Ardern speak before. "But some of the ladies have, they think she's great."
The event is open to both men and women and Mrs McAnulty is hoping for a big turnout.
She believes it is time for Labour next year "depending on who gets the Labour candidacy".
Sunday, June 30, 3-5pm. Carterton Events Centre. Gold coin entry. RSVP by email to labourwomen6@gmail.com.
