Carterton was the only Wairarapa district to see growth in its GDP last year, says the latest annual economic profile by Grow Wellington.
The district's GDP rose by 2.8 per cent for the year to March 2011, to $220 million.
During the same period, Masterton's gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 2.9 per cent to $673 million, while South Wairarapa saw a drop of 0.6 per cent to $195 million.
Carterton Mayor Ron Mark said he wasn't surprised by the growth in the town's economy.
"All of the feedback I've been getting for the last 12 months from the business community is people are pretty happy in Carterton," he said.
The food and beverage sector grew in all three districts, Carterton's boosted by 10.1 per cent, South Wairarapa by 5.7 per cent and Masterton by 2.2 per cent.
For the entire Wellington region, GDP grew 0.8 per cent for the year.
