MASTERTON police cracked down on booze crime during the weekend with breaches of the CBD liquor ban accounting for several of the 12 arrests on Saturday night.
Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said today police are keeping a close eye on town on weekend nights with the weather warming up and longer daylight hours which sees more people out and about.
All up, there were 22 arrests in the region on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, with charges ranging from disorderly behaviour, fighting in a public place, theft and possession of cannabis.
And a Masterton man, 26, is facing two charges of indecent assault after an incident on Saturday night and a Masterton girl, 15, has been charged with intentional damage after running across the tops of cars parked at the Horse and Hound Tavern Cafe and Bar in Jackson Street.
Mr Burr said two young boys, aged 5 and 9, were caught tagging
behind Write Price about 5.45pm on Saturday afternoon.
The attempt at graffiti was not too successful and Mr Burr said most of the spraypaint was reportedly about the head and face of the younger boy.
A report has been forwarded to Youth Aid, as has another report concerning two other Masterton boys, aged 7 and 11, who were caught after setting fire to rubbish in an abandoned vehicle in Cricket Street.
The Masterton Fire Service were called to put out the fire, and also attended two other fires about 4am on Saturday morning behind the Horse and Hound and Super Cheap Auto in Chapel Street.
Two Masterton teenagers, 15 and 17, have been charged with arson after setting the fires and causing minor damage.
And the Wairarapa Ambulance Service was flat out on Saturday night and in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Ambulance supervisor David Long said today a Greytown boy, 16, was found staggering on the Waiohine Bridge with head injuries about 3.30am yesterday.
Mr Long said the boy had been assaulted in an incident about 1.30am and police are investigating. He was admitted to Masterton Hospital and his condition is reported as being "fairly satisfactory".
Mr Long said from 1am to 3.24am, the service attended three separate calls to females, aged 17 to 39, who had collapsed after drinking. All needed to be treated in hospital but were later discharged.
And on Saturday about 11.15pm police were called when a Carterton man, 20, trying to get into his house, smashed through the glass in his front door and ended up with substantial cuts on both forearms.
The man was taken to hospital, treated and discharged.
All up, Mr Long said four drunken young people aged 13 to 17 were attended to during Saturday night, with all but three of the 12 calls in the 12 hours from 8pm Saturday involving alcohol and drugs.
