Hamilton police searching for a person last seen struggling in water below the Fairfield Bridge last week believe they know who they are looking for.
Detective Karl Little said the family of a 23-year-old man contacted police concerned about the whereabouts of their son.
"A jacket recovered from the Waikato River under the Pukete Bridge during the initial search has been identified as being similar to one the man's family believe he bought recently.
The search has continued since the initial report by a female jogger who heard and saw someone struggling in the water.
