Bookworms burrow for Fairfield bargains

Fairfield Rotary Club's annual book fair starts today at Te Rapa Racecourse and continues throughout the weekend.

Fairfield Rotary Club's annual three day book fair opens today at Te Rapa Racecourse.

More than 50,000 hardback and paperback books, vinyl recordings, jigsaws, magazines, CDs, DVDs and videos are on offer.

Rotarians have worked tirelessly, almost since last year's successful event, to collect, store, sort and display books of all categories - most costing a dollar or two.

There will be a small charge for earlybirds and traders for this morning's opening session. The fair is open from 9am till 8pm today, from 9am till 4pm tomorrow and 9am till 3pm on Sunday.

Fairfield Rotary president Seddon Polglase is hopeful of raising more than $40,000, which will fund local community initiatives.

There are reports of a magnificent selection of both fiction and non-fiction - in hardback and paperback volumes. Gardening and recipe books feature along with sporting tomes and pictorial books.

In addition to the usual categories there is a children's section and a selection of even lower priced, bargain books.

Book-a-holic Frank Bailey has cast his expert eye over collected books to identify valuable and collectable editions which will be available on a separate table.
