After parting ways with Willow in 2013, Australian fashion designer Kit Willow is back with sustainable and environmentally friendly brand KitX — available exclusively in New Zealand at Seletti stores.

Launched earlier this year at Paris Fashion Week, the first collection is void of the hippie aesthetic that usually defines such ethically minded efforts and, instead, focuses on crafting sustainable garments with an emphasis on considerate design and quality fabrics. Think organic, pesticide-free cottons and linens featuring intricately laced leather and gold thread handwoven through the fabric.

Lycra and zippers made of recycled plastics and nylon dragged from the bottom of the ocean means every aspect of the label has been meticulously thought out down to the smallest of details — even the buttons have been fashioned from detonated Cambodian landmines.

"I strongly believe in a better world through the simple mantra of making women look and feel beautiful without harming our precious planet. Everyone can win," Kit explains. "The first collection is about creating desirable, high-frequency-wear modern pieces, as comfortable as they are chic, as easy as they are special."

• KitX hand embroidered broderie anglaise top, $699, and skirt, $819, from Seletti. Ph (09) 524 7408.
