In my mid-20s I went on a five week holiday with a girlfriend.
While we were in Paris we visited The Musee d'Orsay, which holds a collection of mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, and the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces in the world — many of which I studied during my high school and university years. It was absolutely amazing to see these works up close and personal. I am very fond of the Impressionist art movement as the artists' works were characterised by visible brush strokes, and emphasis on accurate depiction of light, which is very similar to the reasons I paint and print, and the subject matter I choose.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Bodrum, Turkey. We decided to catch a cheap flight to an airport just outside Istanbul, leaving three hours to get to Ataturk Airport, where we would fly back to NZ. We hired a private driver and set off, explaining, despite the language barrier, that we were in a rush to catch our connecting flight. We had no idea where we were going. All of a sudden, we were at a ferry terminal and the driver was trying to convince us to catch a ferry would be quicker. With stern insistence, we convinced him he had to drive us. We quickly learned what real traffic issues are.
I was in tears in the back seat, convinced we were going to miss our flight as with about an hour to go, we hadn't even crossed the Bosphorus Bridge to Istanbul.
Our crazy driver somehow navigated his way through the intense traffic and came to a screeching halt outside the terminal with about 30 minutes to go for our flight.
We were convinced we were missing our plane, but ran through the airport, jumped queues and the friendly airport staff ensured us we would be fine and got us on board. All this was not helped by being 12 weeks pregnant! Lesson learnt — properly plan and research airport transfers.
