A man who won €10,000 (NZ$19,375) on a Ryanair scratch card became so enraged when the crew weren't able to pay him on the spot that he ate the winning ticket.
The unnamed man bought the ticket during a flight from Poland to Britain on February 26.
Crew members confirmed his win and congratulated him but he became angry when they further explained that large prizes needed to be collected directly from the scratch card company.
The Mirror reported that staff and passengers urged the man not to swallow the ticket but were unable to stop him.
Airline spokesman Stephen McNamara said all winners needed to be verified by the scratch card firm and that the money to pay winners was not "kicking around on the aircraft".
He said it appeared the passenger had acted out of frustration.
Ryanair says the money will now instead be donated to a charity. It has set up a poll on its website to help decide which charity will benefit.
