The first dairy beef sale of 2018 was a small yarding of 261 stock on January 9 but there was good quality resulting in a big increase in prices from the December sale due to good rain in recent weeks.
As a result buyers from Central and Southern Hawke's Bay as well as the Wairarapa were keen to purchase the quality stock presented.
Just under 100 Friesian bulls sold well, the top price of $600 going to PJ & SG Goldsworthy with most making $535-585.
Friesian Cross beef bulls met a strong market with the $570 top price from S. Galvin other Hereford bulls making $520-$565. Good Angus crosses made $560 and Murray Grey cross's reached $545.
White-faced (Hereford) beef cross heifers sold extremely well with J Armstrong making the top price of $560 others making $500-535. Angus crosses reached $540 and Murray Grey crosses $470.
