Adam Milnes set a high bar on day one of the Stoney Creek One Base, the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club's biggest annual fishing tournament.

Yesterday the Tauranga angler landed a 300.2kg blue marlin and a 41.2kg yellowfin tuna on 37kg lines, fishing on Black Label.

Club manager Roly Bagshaw said it was one of only a few billfish over 300kg landed in Tauranga during his six years in the role.

"To get a 300kg fish in any year is amazing," Bagshaw said

The four-day tournament, which attracted 407 anglers in 115 teams this year, finishes on Saturday.

The club's blue marlin record on a 37kg line is 373.3kg and has stood since 1972, while the yellowfin tuna record - 92.1kg - was set in 2016 by Shirley Waterhouse.

A couple of marlin to be weighed in tonight from around 7pm, plus a massive blue marlin & yellowfin tuna for Black Label due in at 8.30pm. Come on down for a look! Stoney Creek NZ ONE BASE 2019
