Castlecliff Beach is in for a post-summer clean up.
Whanganui District Council's youth committee has organised the event for this Saturday and will top it off with beach volleyball, prizes and a sausage sizzle.
Committee member Josie Verhaaren said they had wanted to organise an environmental focused event for a while.
"It's something that impacts us all and we think it's important," she said.
"A lot of Whanganui youth go to the beach over the summer and it's such a massive asset to Whanganui but there's a lot of rubbish left over; bottles, cans, chip packets. It's really not good."
Josie said anyone could join in on Saturday.
"Basically we're just trying to spread the word at the moment to get as many members of the community along as possible. The more people the better."
Keep New Zealand Beautiful has provided clean up kits for the afternoon which will be handed out to people before they make their way from the Duncan Pavilion to the north mole and back.
At the end there will be beach volleyball, spot prizes and prizes for most rubbish collected, most recycling collected and the most interesting item found.
Proceeds from the sausage sizzle will go to the Sir Peter Blake Trust.
*Those wanting to take part on the Castlecliff Beach clean up can meet at the Duncan Pavilion car park at 1pm.
