Kiwi entertainer Jackie Clarke returns to Katikati on Saturday for the Avocado Food and Wine Festival, ready to rock with the irresistible Flying Kiwis, Annie Crummer and Rikki Morris, joined by talented guitarist Chet O'Connell.
Saturday marks the festival's 20th anniversary and it's all go with ticket sales going well. Festival committee spokesperson Jacqui Knight says about 700 tickets have gone, "which is already a great crowd".
With the festival growing so much last year and the expected numbers this year the committee has had a number of additional compliance issues to implement, but it's all in the name of ensuring the day is as enjoyable as possible for everyone, Jacqui says.
"There are a record number of vendors and we definitely have the biggest main stage performers that the festival has ever had — so we will be having an awesome day!"
This year's entertainment lineup includes Bay favourites Kokomo, who played at last year's festival, and talented singer/guitarist, Mark Taipari performing a Neil Diamond tribute show.
The song selection covers more than 50 years of Neil Diamond's many hits and is a celebration of this incredible performer. NZME's The Hits morning show host, Will Johnston will be MC, updating festival goers throughout the day.
The Uretara Domain will be set out for people to navigate their way around the various vendors to select from a delectable range of cuisine, many using avocados, then choose a boutique wine or beer from an impressive range, to wash it down.
Gazebos and umbrellas with tables and chairs will be available at the grounds with plenty of room by the stage to get up and dance.
Street entertainers Luke Deverey and Skew-Whiff will present roving characters and the Kidz Zone is back with bouncy castles and activities for children. Food and craft competitions involving avocados and pits (stones) will be held at the Pit Stop marquee.
Hosted by the Western Bay Museum, foodies can enter their favourite smoothie, dessert or guacomole dish or get really creative and decorate a pit (painted or carved), make avocado pit jewellery or have a go at making wind chimes.
Entry forms are available at the Western Bay Museum, Katikati Information Centre or online at www.katikatiavofest.weebly.com
People attending the festival are reminded to use the car park in Kotahi Lane (by Bridgestone Fire Centre) and take an easy walk to the domain. There is a drop off area in Major Street and ample disability parking there also. Otherwise, to keep the day hassle free call Kates Kabs 022 045 0525.
