Seven years have passed since the Pike River Mine disaster but it doesn't feel so long ago to the people of the West Coast. "It plays heavily on everyone's psyche here," says Katie Milne.
The Federated Farmers president spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay to share memories about the disaster and how it has impacted on the community since.
Milne is full of praise for Pike River families spokesman Bernie Monk who has "done a sterling job."
